Art in the Garden

Overview

Art in the Garden is a project produced by Frederic Billet that spotlights Manor Park Community Garden as a cherished space for creativity and local engagement. The project will promote mental well-being, reducing isolation and creating an ongoing positive presence in this valuable local green space.

Through a series of workshops led by Newham-based artist Eleanor Pearce, participants will capture the garden’s unique beauty, drawing inspiration from its plants, pathways and seasonal colors in their artwork. Each piece will celebrate the garden space, reflecting the vibrant energy of Manor Park’s residents and their shared green space.

By bringing more residents to the garden and its surrounding sites, Art in the Garden will bring a vibrant, inclusive environment where creativity flourishes and where community members feel a sense of belonging and pride.

Showcasing Local Talent

Selected artworks created during the workshops will be showcased at key community venues, including Manor Park Library, Manor Park Community Café Hub and Jack Cornwell Community Centre.

These displays will extend the project’s reach, inspiring residents across the area to visit and engage with the garden. Manor Park Library, a well-loved institution facing budget constraints, will particularly benefit from the project, drawing in patrons and revitalising interest in local community spaces.

Community Producers

Art in the Park was commissioned as part of Culture Within Newham’s Community Producers scheme. In November 2024, we asked former members of our Community Voices Panel if they would be interested in developing and producing their own creative project for a local community.

Panelists were able to apply for up to £2,000-£3,000 to deliver a creative, cultural or artistic project in their local community. Members of the Community Voices Panel have excellent and in-depth knowledge of their local communities and this commission aims to make the most of this knowledge and provide opportunities to develop experience working in the arts.
