We are hosting an online training session with grant writing expert Phyllis Martin to support those who want to apply for our first open call for Unexpected Partnerships Commissions.

This commissioning opportunity aims to bring together arts and non-arts partners to create new and unexpected creative partnerships. We’re looking for projects that will be developed with communities and create an opportunity for participation. The main audience for projects must be people who live, work or study in Newham.

The online training session aims to support those who are considering applying for a commission, as well as anyone else who lives, works, or studies in Newham and is looking to learn how to write great grant applications.

In this dynamic and practical session, you will unpack the unique selling points and impact of your work, and consider how to translate these into bids for funding.

By the end of this session, you will:

• Know how strong your project idea is in three key areas for funding success

• Have tools to build a realistic planning timeline and budget that will help you break down costs

• Know how to divide up the work of getting the application done and the common mistakes to avoid

At the end of the session there will be time to ask Phyllis questions about grant applications generally.

Loose Baker from Culture Within Newham will also be attending and stay for 30mins after the workshop to answer any questions about the ‘Unexpected Creative Partnerships’ application.

We are keen to offer a workshop that is informative to anyone looking for support with writing funding applications, whether they intend on applying to our commission or not. It is therefore not compulsory to attend this workshop in order to apply for the commission open call.

About

Phyllis Martin is a fundraiser, producer and production manager with 20 years experience supporting companies and artists. With experience in securing sponsorship, venture capital and crowdfunding, as well as traditional trusts, foundations, Lottery and European fundraising, Phyllis regards her work as safe-breaking - helping unlock the mysteries of grant-writing so good things can get funding. Her hands-on experience managing tours, exhibitions, venues, arts CICs, charities and events gives her a well-informed and down-to-earth approach.
