Closing date: 25 May 2025

Organisation: Newham Poetry Prize

Prize: Your poems will be printed and distributed across Newham

Contact email: newhampoetryprize@gmail.com

The Newham Poetry Prize is now open for entries! The Newham Poetry Prize is a newly established competition for those who live, study or work in Newham which encourages aspiring and seasoned writers to submit a single poem that references the borough.

The theme of the first-ever Prize is poetry of place. This means all of the poems submitted to the prize should be about Newham, or your relationship to the borough we call home. Poems of place usually focus on a specific location, and explore what makes it unique and the emotional connections people have to it.

Judges include award-winning writers Courttia Newland and Newham Poetry Prize founder Be Manzini who are passionate about encouraging more writing activity in their local borough and beyond.

Entry is free for all those that live, work or study in Newham. Entries close midnight 25th May 2025. Please note this project is for those aged 18+

Prize winners will be invited to a celebration event in June, and have their poems published.

Having travelled across London, the country and the world with my art and facilitation skills this project feels like a homecoming. Newham is the place I grew up in and have chosen to return to. This borough has such vibrancy and uniqueness; we are hoping that this will be reflected in the poems that are entered into the competition.
