If we want to do good work with communities, we need to let them decide what good looks like for them, but how do we do that in ethical ways? Join this session from Culture Within Newham’s Programme Director Stella Toonen to explore:
How we can invite community voices into creative decision-making through co-creation,
What considerations that comes with for you as a professional about how you hold that space.
How do you set up a space that cares for your participants, as well as for yourself?
How do we work with communities in care-led and human-centred ways, that don’t expect an art professional to have to be a social worker too?
This workshop will provide some ideas, examples and interactive activities to determine best practice in achieving balanced and care-full community engagement.
Creative Industries Festival 2026
This session will be delivered as part of the Creative Industries Festival 2026. This year, the Creative Industries Festival explores how creativity can help us find balance in our work, our health, and our lives. As creative practitioners now have to navigate increasingly complex ways of working, the festival focuses on what it means to find good work that supports inclusion, health and wellbeing.
